Important Patient Notice: Meningitis Update & Vaccination Advice

Following recent developments and a statement from the Health Secretary regarding the outbreak of meningitis in Kent, please see the latest advice from our Lead Nurse:

Current Position

At present, it is believed that no additional vaccination is required outside of the affected area. This may change if further guidance is issued by Public Health England or if cases are confirmed elsewhere.

Childhood Vaccinations

Children born in or after 2015 who have completed their routine childhood immunisations are highly likely to be protected against Meningitis B, as this is included in the standard vaccination schedule.

If you believe your child’s vaccinations are incomplete, or they have not received any vaccines and you would like them to be vaccinated, please contact the surgery (this does not include vaccines already booked).

Meningitis ACWY Vaccine

This vaccine is routinely offered to children aged 13–14 years, usually delivered in secondary school by School Health Nurses.
If your child has missed this vaccine, or is up to 25 years old and has not received it, the practice can provide this vaccination.

Private Vaccinations

We are unable to provide the MenACWY vaccine early (before age 13–14). If you wish for your child to have this sooner, it must be arranged privately.

Children born before 2015 do not routinely require the Meningitis B vaccine under current guidance. If you would still like your child to receive this, it must also be arranged privately.

Need Advice?

If you would like to speak to a member of our nursing team, please submit an enquiry via the practice.
